WWII flags at the Old Mill Museum
Now for a limited time at the Old Mill Museum - a display of authentic yosegaki hinomaru flags from WWII.
These "Good Luck Flags" were a traditional gift for Japanese servicemen. The flags were signed by well-wishers, friends and family, and contain good-luck messages. Japanese soldiers carried these flags during military service as a personal item to remind them of home.
The Museum holds three of these flags; which are on display at the museum now through the end of April. After this special exhibition, the Historical Society will repatriate these war trophies back to Japan, to be returned to descendants and communities from whence they originated.
The Old Mill Museum is open for public tours every Saturday from 10am and 2pm. The winter is a great time to explore all three floors of the museum. See the extensive military display, Ortonville's 1929 Ford Fire Engine, and learn all about the history of our community.
